We are using authentic medieval binding techniques to bring you a journal that will stand the test of time. The Pleasure of Writing Medieval Journal is hand bound right here in our workshop in the United States. This journal is meant to be used, the perfect travel journal and diary. Each journals comes with a matching leather book mark to ensure you never lose your place. It's made to last and to be enjoyed forever!

Our permanently bound journal has 240 5” x 7 ¾” blank pages (120 sheets) of light crème colored, 120gsm paper. It is handmade, 100% cotton rag (meaning it has a slight tooth) Arches paper, archival and acid free. Each page is torn by hand from parent sheets, and the edges are left natural to give you the authentic artisanal look and feel. The eight sections of paper are hand stitched for durability, allowing the journal to lay flat when it is open, and are bordered by authentic linen front and back pages.

The legendary Arches paper mill is one of the oldest in the world, having been in business since 1492. Their paper is perfect for drawing, watercolor and fountain pen, especially broader nibs. You can use both sides for writing or art work; the paper is so thick that it absorbs ink and watercolors well without bleed-through.

Our Medieval Journals are finished with 2.2 mm thick leather from a small, 7th generation tannery in the Italian Alps where the tanning is done by hand. This leather was developed exclusively for The Pleasure of Writing Medieval Journals; you won't find it anywhere else. If you scratch it, simply rub the scratch and it will heal! It will also develop a patina over time that will enrich its look. The Pleasure of Writing Medieval Journal closes via a hand braided and waxed, 30 inch long tie that wraps around the journal.
