Baroness Ottilie von Faber and Count Alexander zu Castell-Rudenhausen were married in 1898. Due to a clause in her grandfather Lothar von Faber’s will, it was dictated that the company should keep the “Faber” name for all time. The marriage thus creates the new noble family of “von Faber-Castell.” This couple’s life provides the inspiration for the Limited Edition Heritage Ottilie & Alexander pens.

Alexander also takes on new responsibilities. A captain of the 6th Chevau-leger Regiment in the Bavarian Cavalry, Alexander quickly proves his ability to manage the global business in Stein, Germany. In 1905, the launch of the Castell 9000 in his regiment’s color green is a great success. The pencil is characterized by a new standard of quality and value which is still valid today – a true classic and the inspiration for the metal barrel of the Alexander fountain pen in the same green. In the Faber-Castell Castle, Alexander’s personality is reflected in the study. With its extraordinary craftsmanship, its fine details are echoed in the Alexander fountain pen. The 18 carat, bicolor gold nib has been inscribed by hand. Each fountain pen is limited to 1,898 pieces, representing the year of Ottilie’s and Alexander’s wedding.
