Discover Visconti from Florence with Love
Founded in 1988, Visconti’s history began in Florence, the capital of Italy’s Tuscan region. Florence is an ancient city dating back to the 1st century BC and is often considered to be the birthplace of the Renaissance. The city’s past is immersed in rich history, most notably under periods of rule by the powerful Medici family and the numerous religious and political revolutions.
Visconti fine writing instruments are designed and hand-crafted in a 15th century Florentine villa. Their team of master craftsmen employ traditional manufacturing techniques that demonstrate their unique skills and supreme artisanal creativity. Each pen reflects Visconti’s passion for Florentine history, art, science, literature, and human culture.
Important Florentine symbols such as the Fleur de Lis, a distinct emblem from Florence’s history, are often embellished and Florence’s iconic ‘Ponte Vecchio’ bridge is embodied in the Visconti clip. Visconti today is a leading brand in the world of fine writing and is committed to growing their reputation for crafting beautiful and unique writing instruments.
During the 1990s, Visconti developed a number of unique features:
Power Filling System (1993) - The Power Filler is a vacuum filling system that is easy to use and has a high ink capacity with only one ink reservoir.
The Travel Inkwell (1997) - The Visconti travelling inkpot enables the user to fill their pen while travelling. The travelling inkpot ensures a large ink fill and is conveniently designed for operation without the need for a table.
The Double Reservoir Filling System (1998) - An ingenious system that prevents a fountain pen from leaking during air travel due to a change in air pressure. With two inkwells.
Hook Safe Lock (2006) - Patented in 2006, this revolutionary system was created to lock the pen body into the cap to prevent the possibility of the pen accidentally unscrewing and leaking inside a pocket or bag.
By 2008, the company had 25 employees who handcrafted their pens. By 2012, Visconti exported its crafted products to more than 50 countries around the world.
More than five thousand years ago with the invention of writing the pre-history of the human kind ceases and Homo Sapiens marks the eve of human history. The same period discovers the metallurgy, thus allowing the civilization of metals to mark the beginning of human evolution all the way to the invention of the wheel.
Visconti conceived the Homo Sapiens writing instruments line for real writers, for those to whom the fountain pen continues to represent a travelling mate, a daily friend to share with the same civilization that writing contributed to create. The material in this pen is as antique and natural as the world: lava from the Etna volcano. in south Italy. Nevertheless, it has several characteristics that render it unique in the manufacturing of writing instruments. Visconti has successfully produced a material containing pure basaltic lava, catalysed together with resin in a formula.
Made from natural resin uniquely mixed to represent palettes of oil paint, this pen utilizes Visconti's eighteen-faceted design, with the many edges enhancing its vivid colors. The meticulous selection of resins and their color mix is one of the major innovations introduced by this line.
