Figures ahead of their time. Rogue minds that challenged conventional wisdom. History is punctuated by characters whose curiosity and eye for detail changed the world. With Theory of Evolution, Montegrappa honours the fearless intellect and transformative influence of Charles Darwin.

Sterling silver, vermeil and eclectic, playful function provide the foundations for Theory of Evolution – the new Avanguardia series edition. As a symbol for the interconnection of species, Darwin’s Tree of Life presides over a design that sets milestones in natural science among extravagant Romanesque styling.

With the publication of his 1859 book, ‘On the Origin of Species’, Charles Darwin revolutionized society’s understanding of the natural world. His findings established the basis for natural science, but threatened to upend contemporary beliefs in science, philosophy and politics. Initial reactions were predictably hostile.

Revolutionary writing requires a delicate hand, and Darwin spent two decades polishing his theory of natural selection for public consumption – remaining coy about revealing the full truth of human ancestry. Theory of Evolution is similarly guarded – concealing the true origin of species in a ‘peekaboo’ finial case beneath mirror-polished silver… a playful reminder of our own evolutionary journey.

Architectural accents for our newest Limited Edition draw from Darwin’s spiritual home – London’s Natural History Museum. Darwin’s legacy inhabits every space of this cathedral to nature. Its exotic archways are evoked in intricate, precious-metal castings that encase an organic Montegrappite core.

Within a simulated column, vermeil figures illustrate landmark findings in life sciences – from Darwin’s observations on Galapagos to modern genealogy’s double helix. Knowledge and craftsmanship coexist in perfect proportion on fountain pen and rollerball editions comprising only 165 pieces.

Theory of Evolution is professionally appointed and authentically presented. Each exemplar is delivered in a bureau chest finished in brown oak, and supplied with a companion magnifying glass, journal and reusable, leatherette cover to power the discerning writer’s own quest for knowledge.
